We comply with the FDA's regulation for ceramic goods. Our clay has an absorption rate less than 0.5% and our clay glazes comply with all toxicity regulation.
Currently, we have no third party certifications.
More Detail:
The FDA regulates 3 properties for ceramic goods, water absorption, lead levels, and cadmium levels. Lead and Cadmium can have devastating effects on the human body But they are not banned, their levels are regulated. Having the lowest possible water absorbtion rate prevents molds growing and living in your dishes making you sick repeatidly.
You maybe surprised to not see other materials of that list. We understand that may be alarming but what matters is what form is the compound and how durable is the glaze that contains it. A great example of this is Cobalt. While we don't and would never recommend the use of raw cobalt ore for use as a colorant in a glazes as it is toxic. Cobalt Carbonate, Co2+ CO32−, on the other hand is pretty harmless to humans. It simply passes through our bodies, unable to build up and cause issues.
The goal as potters is to create as durable a glaze as possible so you are never exposed. Combined with well understood materials helping to keep you safe as our customer and us safe as makers. Win-Win.
